Prepare the surface. Remove dust, dirt, grease, mould and any loose or flaking paint. The surface must be clean, dry and sound.
Sand glossy areas lightly so the primer can key. Mask and protect. Cover floors, furniture and everything not to be sprayed with masking paper and tape. Shake the can well. Shake vigorously for about one minute after the mixing ball starts to rattle, and shake occasionally during use. Test on a small area. Spray a hidden patch first to check adhesion and stain blocking on the actual substrate before doing the whole job. Spray. Hold the can upright about 20–30 cm (8–12 in) from the surface, move side to side and apply short, overlapping passes with a light dusting action. Do not try to cover the stain with one heavy coat. Build thin coats. Apply 2–3 thin coats and let each coat flash off before the next one. Re-check the stain. If a stain is still visible once the primer has dried, apply another coat before topcoating. Apply the topcoat. Once the primer is fully dry, paint over it in the required colour. Clear the nozzle. After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2–3 seconds to clear the valve. |
